Mattress Company Leesa Sleep Donates More Than 100 Mattresses to Hillsides Youth and Families
Hillsides Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Stacey Roth and media personality and Hillsides supporter Dr. Drew Pinsky test out the mattresses during the Leesa Sleep mattress donation event where the mattress company gave away over 100 new mattresses to Hillsides children and families.

LOS ANGELES, September 5, 2017 – Norma Flores and her two young daughters were all smiles as they loaded four new mattresses in their mini-van. “This is a huge help for my family,” said Flores. “The ones we have now are old and no good.”

Flores was one of many Hillsides clients to receive free mattresses from Leesa, an online direct-to consumer luxury mattress company.  During a mattress donation event held on August 30 in Pasadena, Leesa donated 111 mattresses to Hillsides youth and families at the site of Hillsides’ Youth Moving On (YMO) program for youth transitioning from foster care to adulthood.

“We are so thankful for Leesa Sleep,” said Stacey Roth, Hillsides executive vice president and chief operating officer, who spoke during a brief program before the mattresses were distributed. “To have your own bed is a wonderful luxury that many of our clients have never had and now do.”

TV and radio personality Dr. Drew Pinsky, a long-time supporter of Hillsides who partnered with Leesa for the mattress donation, also attended the event. “Hillsides does incredible work,” he said.  “If we only had about 10,000 more Hillsides across the country, our country would be a lot different.”

Earlier that day, Pinsky broadcast his daily KABC radio show, “Dr. Drew Midday Live with Mike Catherwood,” live from a nearby Hillsides location, the Peer Resource Center, a one-stop shop for youth ages 16 – 25.

A certified B Corp, Leesa has a three-pronged social impact program that is considered the heart and soul of the company: One-Ten, One-Earth and One-Community. In particular, as part of its One-Ten program, Leesa donates one mattress for every 10 sold.

“To date, we have donated over 18,000 mattresses to incredible organizations like Hillsides, which is providing a better place to sleep and a loving home for people who need it the most,” said Leesa social impact representative Jen-Ai Notman, who was on hand to help pass out mattresses.

Hillsides has provided a home for Mei-li Apalucci, who lives in YMO’s transitional housing program.  Now, through the generosity of Leesa, she not only has an apartment to call her own, but a brand-new mattress.  “In my time in foster care, I moved seven or eight times.  Having a bed of your own and a place to sleep of your own is an indescribable feeling,” she said.
