Latino Family Health Fair - November 18, 2007
On Sunday, November 18th, Bienvenidos held its annual Latino Family Health Fair at the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. Since 1988, this pioneering event has encouraged Latino families in the Greater Los Angeles area to take charge of their health in a festive atmosphere that celebrates Latino culture. Many vendors, including health organizations, clinics, and health practitioners, were there to offer information and health screenings. The goals of the fair are:
-To build our healthcare infrastructure to better meet the needs of Latino families
-To educate the community about the signs and symptoms of illnesses such as diabetes and
heart disease
To communicate that many illnesses are preventable and controllable
To teach simple lifestyle changes that can bring about significant health improvements
Thousands of families enjoyed the fair and went home wiser and healthier.
